Benefits to Your Business
Equilibrate provides several benefits to your clinic and your business. It adds the opportunity to include an objective Balance/Fall Assessment and Therapy segment to work with your current client base as well as any local aging population. These are insurance and Medicare reimbursable items. Being a mobile solution, you can take the system into the community to participate in health fairs and other community events that give you exposure to new clients and potential customers – driving growth of your business. Equilibrate is also an important tool used to measure the impact and recovery of stability as part of a mild concussion encountered in either sports or other activity. This may be a new business area for some clinics.
Within the clinic itself you will see the Equilibrate system as another station and tool to measure the severity of balance and vestibular issues and use it to help determine what level of rehabilitation is necessary. The therapy portion of Equilibrate will challenge your patients to perform neuromuscular re-education of any shortfall or injured area using visual biofeedback. Additionally you will have objective scores, patient records and even digital video if you wish, to track and report on the severity of issues and the progress of recovery during rehabilitation. This information can be exported and included in an Electronic Medical Record system if utilized. Within the system you also have access to an integrated Home Exercise Library with a thousand exercises allowing print or email delivery to a patient or caregiver. All of these tools allow you to optimize time spent with patients to deliver the best possible care. This system provides you with a technological competitive advantage over other care delivery locations.
All activities performed on Equilibrate – either assessment or therapy – are billed in the same manner and under the same regulations in which you currently submit reimbursement claims. These can include initial assessment or follow-up evaluation, physical performance test or measurement, neuromuscular reeducation or therapeutic procedure — that is performed within your practice or office. Click here for available CPT codes in the Equilibrate system. Please refer to your local guidelines and insurance providers for specific details on reimbursements. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
Equilibrate provides complete documentation and reporting for all activities including assessment, therapy, and care notes, thus providing support and back-up for any requirements by your insurance provider. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
The Equilibrate System is applicable and reimbursable across multiple medical modalities. Caregivers can secure reimbursement for evaluation and therapy delivery utilizing existing CPT codes (dependant on local/state regulations and guidelines which vary by location.) As more of our insurance providers look to cut expenses and audit clinical care delivery, you will have an objective system that provides patient level data that will highlight the need for skilled care and focused treatment. Equilibrate delivers evidence based clinical information, supporting care decisions of providers in a cost effective manner consistent with national medical guidelines. The solution records physical deficiencies that may indicate the need for multiple office visits. Current diagnosis codes (ICD9) integrated in the system support the frequency and duration of the plan of care. Patient progress over time is then demonstrated via a graphical and tabular format.
Benefits to Patients
Equilibrate removes subjectivity from balance assessment. Physicians and caregivers receive immediate quantitative and actionable data for assessment and therapy while patients and clients can track their progress. In addition, our extensive (printable from the system) Exercise Library gives your patients easy to follow, step-by-step exercises. Additionally, the system can be used as a therapeutic device for strengthening, conditioning and other preventative initiatives. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
All information is HIPAA compliant. You utilize your own patient identifiers. All Equilibrate information that is stored and backed up on your systems and networks receives the protection you already have in place locally. Any data transmitted externally has all patient identifiers stripped from each record – complying with HIPAA regulations for privacy. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
Due to Equilibrate’s system for whole body assessment of human balance, which includes upper body imaging along with improved force plate technology for the lower body, a direct comparison between Equilibrate and other systems or tests is difficult as other devices do not measure upper body. However, data from a database supplied with three years of testing data provides normative balance score averages from subjects in their teens to over 90 years old. Validation studies, normative data, and individual case briefs are available on our website. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
Yes, the system is approved and registered as a Class I device. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
The system is completely portable and is packed in 2 easy to use carry bags. Total weight is just over 40 pounds for both bags. The system can be set up or repacked in less than 10 minutes. Total floor space required is approximately 4 ft x 4 ft. The system is simple, easy, portable and reliable. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
The Equilibrate System is driven by proprietary software that utilizes much of the processing power and ability of a computer. Extraneous software or programs have the potential to interfere with the speed and data processing, therefore the system includes a laptop computer with Equilibrate as the only application. Equilibrate is enabled to check for and receive updates as they become available. As long as Equilibrate’s computer is connected to the internet via either wireless or Ethernet cable, you will automatically receive updates from Balance Engineering – provided your support contract is current. While infrequent, most any computer can experience a technical issue at some time. If a reboot of Equilibrate is not sufficient to solve a problem, you can contact our support team for assistance. If the issue is a faulty computer or other hardware (and your support is current), we will overnight a new pre-loaded system to you at no cost. We ask that you return your previous system. Balance Engineering does not backup system data so a complete recovery is contingent upon users backing up the system data regularly. It is the users’ responsibility to ensure backups are completed. The system is comprised of force plate technology that measures lower body movement, high definition cameras that measures upper body movement, the framework that connects these two measurement devices into the laptop which contains the proprietary software that enables clinicians to perform balance assessments, therapy and create exercise programs for their clients. Additionally, the first year of support, on-site training and updates are included with the purchase of the system. After year one, a support plan can be purchased to continue the warranty, support and system updates. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
Training is performed on site at your location. We recommend two three-hour sessions. The first session includes training your staff. In the second session you will utilize the system with patients/clients and we will be there to assist, provide support and answer questions that arise while you use the system in a “live” setting. The system is warranted for one year from deployment. It covers normal clinical use. After the first year, you have the opportunity to continue on a program that provides continuing support, updates and warranty. There is a cost for this extended program. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
We offer a Trial program which allows a one month use of the system at no cost. At the end of the one month you will be asked to determine if you wish to extend the trial at a nominal fee. You may purchase the system at that time. Note that if you extend your trial to get more comfortable with the purchase – any fees can be applied towards the purchase. Our products have been developed by physical therapists, doctors and other subject matter experts with the sole purpose of developing a solution that will satisfy the dynamic needs of physical medicine professionals. The incorporation of full body assessment as a part of balance assessment is in line with contemporary clinical research and validated against traditional functional outcome measures that have been the standard for many years. Of course, you own all of the patient data that resides on your system and the clinical data associated with treating your patient. The deidentified (patient and location), aggregated raw clinical data is owned by Balance Engineering. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
It is recommended that a clinician, physical therapist, physical therapy assistant (or those appropriately trained) interpret the objective data provided by the system in order to then create any followup actions necessary for the patient. Watch Equilibrate in Action here.
